Happy New Year. We’re still able to say that aren’t we?
Here is the first playlist of 2024, a great collection of music from bands and artists with a connection to Reading and Wokingham, many of whom you can hear live over the coming months.
Every week, the RaW Sounds Today playlist aims to showcase music you may not have heard of, giving you the chance to discover something new.
We’re really proud of it and hope you tune in for free on Spotify.
We also have a Facebook group – search for RaW Sounds Today and it will come up.
Adomania – Primal
One of our fave local bands, Adomania, opened our first playlist of last year with their I Always Seem to Break Something (At the Party) single.
Now, they open up our first playlist of 2024 with this song from their recent two-track single and you can hear the progression that they have made in the last year.
The band have gone up a level with tighter songwriting, musicianship and production – https://www.facebook.com/AdomaniaBand/
Sophie Lloyd – Won’t You Come (feat. Marisa Rodriguez)
Sophie, from Henley, has become a guitar phenomenon racking up over a million You Tube subscribers and in late 2023 she released her Imposter Syndrome album. It includes this song which features a guest vocal from Reading’s Marisa of ‘and the Moths’ fame.
The song is a powerful rock anthem and it has a strong melodic chorus which is no surprise as it was co-written with Reading producer, John Mitchell – https://www.sophieguitar.com/
Marisa and the Moths – Fake It Till You Make It
Talking of Marisa, her band released a new single in December and it’s another good one.
It’s no surprise that Marisa is being asked to guest on other people’s records with a voice as strong and powerful as she has.
The rest of the band are excellent too as we saw when they played at Wokingham Festival last year.
They are live at Sub 89 Reading on May 2 – https://www.marisaandthemoths.com/
Patchy Blonde – Don’t Ask, Don’t Get
A very cool indie sound and song with the debut single from a Wokingham-based musician.
So, who is Patchy Blonde? Well it’s actually Madeleine Bowis, the vocalist from the band on our lead track, Adomania! This is certainly a talented person – https://linktr.ee/patchyblonde
Modesty Blue – Sad Sweet Dreamer
Local musician Sean Lynch and singer Sam Nolan released a wonderful Christmas song based around a 60’s classic and here’s their single based around a 1970’s classic – https://www.facebook.com/modestybluemusic
Deva St.John – Broke
Deva always appears in our Top 20 of the year and this is another excellent single that she released in late 2023 – https://www.facebook.com/dayvasaintjohn
MacKenzie – I’ll Be Fine
MacKenzie’s single Ordinary was one of our Top 10 of 2023 and this single that she released in November is another excellent one. We can’t wait to see what she releases in 2024 – https://linktr.ee/Mackenzieofficial
Bone-Idle – Superficial
We’ve been hearing good things about this band and so checked the EP out that they released in the Autumn. It’s good stuff.
We understand that they are recording new material so we’ll look forward to that – https://www.instagram.com/bone_idleuk
Reliant – Never Enough
Wokingham indie rockers released a new single in November. They have an Islington Academy London show on February 24 – https://linktr.ee/wearereliant
Rila’s Edge – Radio
They were our No.1 of 2023 so we thought we’d close with a song that we haven’t yet featured from their recent Too Late to Turn Back EP.
They were the band of last year. Will they be the band of 2024 too? – https://www.rilasedge.com/
