AN ELDERLY man was fooled by burglars pretending to be from the water board.
The incident took place in Woodley on Saturday, February 17.
Thames Valley Police has launched an appeal to readers in a bid to track the thieves.
They said that sometime between 11.30am and 1.30pm, two men knocked on the door of a home in Hunters Court.
They told the 79-year-old that they were from the water board and were sorting a leak on a neighbouring property. To fix it, they needed to access the victim’s property to turn off the water supply.
One of the thieves then took the victim in the kitchen while the other suspect searched the house and took valuables including a wallet, bank cards and jewellery.
Later the bank cards were used to withdraw an amount of cash.
The victim was not injured during the incident.
The first offender is a white man and aged around 60.
He had stocky build with short brown hair and was wearing a blue polo top with some embroidery on the left hand side.
The second offender is a white man, aged around 40 and of smaller build.
He was wearing grey trousers at the time of the incident.
Investigating officer, PC Mike Parker, from the Investigation Hub at Loddon Valley, said: “I would like to appeal for anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or can provide further information about the offender, that may assist this investigation.
“I would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in this area around the time of the incident.”
