A ROLEX watch sold for more than £11,000 in the October sale by Wokingham Auctions.
The company had a range of heritage brands at its Silver, Jewellery, Watches & Luxury Accessories sale, held on Saturday, October 26.
The Rolex – a GMT Master from circa 1972 – was the star lot, selling for £11,260 (including buyer’s premium) despite fading to the bezel and scratches to the crystal.
Known as the ‘Pepsi’ by collectors the timepiece was worn practically every day from new by an engineer on frequent site visits in all seasons contributing to a unique patination for the next owner.
Wokingham Auctions said that bidding was brisk on both live bidding platforms, and four-telephone lines and was eventually knocked down to a buyer in the room.
The highlight of the silver section was a George V silver-gilt wall mirror hallmarked for Asprey, London and went to a telephone bidder despite stiff competition from a flurry of commission and room bids making almost £1,700 (including premium).
Gold chains, pendants, necklaces and a cornucopia of gem-set rings all made the higher end of estimates probably due to their quality, desirability and the buoyant bullion price.
A two-carat solitaire diamond ring got away for £4,960 and a three-stone diamond ring sold for £3,720 (including premium). Five vintage Hermes scarves in original boxes realised from £80-130
Auctioneer Pascal McNamara said: “This end-of-October sale has become our most successful auction of the year targeting trade and private buyers with the corresponding auction in early-February proving useful for restocking after the Christmas season for the former and an opportunity for the latter to offload unwanted gifts.”
