DRAW: Reading FC will face Gillingham in Carabao Cup

Reading fans can pencil in the first fixture of the new season having been drawn to play Gillingham at Madejski Stadium in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

More commonly known as the League Cup, Royals were seeded in the southern section of today’s draw, which took place in Bangkok, and will face Gillingham in the week commencing August 7.

The Championship fixture list will be revealed on Wednesday.

Reading have not met Gillingham since a Championship fixture way back in 2005 which ended goalless, while the last meeting between the pair at the Mad Stad saw the Royals run out 3-1 winners thanks to a Dave Kitson hat-trick.

Most Premier League sides enter the Carabao Cup in round two.
