RESIDENTS in Earley will see no rise in their town council precept.
Cllr Clive Jones, leader of Earley Town Council, said that there will be a 0% increase in the precept this year.
“The town council finances have been transformed since the Liberal Democrats took over in May 2019,” he said.
“They were in a mess, with out of date systems and inadequate reserves.”
Cllr Jones said that during the last three years, the town council has invested in a new computer system to manage the finances.
“It is now fit for purpose,” he said. “I still think back to our first meeting, when we asked for some information and were told it would take four to six weeks to gather, as it was on different systems.”
Cllr Jones said that during a “cost of living crisis”, with energy, national insurance and shopping bills rising, he is pleased to say there will be no precept rise.
“It will help residents in a small way,” he said.
