ONE OF the highlights of Sunday’s mayor making for Wokingham Town Council was hearing the new town mayor speak.
Easily confused with the first citizen of the borough, for sharing the name Wokingham in their job title, the Town Mayor has a similar role.
We welcome the return of Cllr Lucey as Town Mayor, and we look forward to working with him. We also will miss working with all the outgoing mayors, each one ambassadors for their corner of the borough. Your service has been a credit to the community.
Cllr Lucey used his opening remarks to remind us that we have much to be positive about in Wokingham.
Yes, we know there are seemingly endless roadworks and building works going on, but the end result will be worth all the pain.
And while we wait there is still plenty of activities to enjoy and make the most of. The children’s fun days are great examples, Sunny Saturdays, Woodley’s boot sales, Twyfest and the Wargrave Festival all showcase what we do and how well we do it.
It’s easy to be down on Wokingham, to pretend that things are under siege when they’re not and to make out that the borough is sinking.
We’re building foundations for the future. It will be worth it, stay positive.
