We had one of our occasional road trips out of the area to enjoy the recent Dog Day Afternoon Festival.
It was so good, and so memorabled that we had to feature a couple of those legendary artists in this week’s playlist – plus a Reading band that performed another great show at The Face Bar a few weeks ago.

The Go Go Cult – A Town Called Sorrow
This Reading-based band always put on a good live performance and they certainly did that recently when they supported Ghost Dance at the Face Bar.
This is a cool song that appeared on their We Don’t Fit album and Tarantula EP.
It starts with a wonderful opening bass line and vocal before moving into the band’s uplifting goth psychobilly grooves.

Blondie – X Offender
Talking of Dog Day Afternoon, Andrew Merritt and I went on a road trip to it last week and it was brilliant.
It had an incredible line-up including the amazing Blondie featuring Debbie Harry. So it’s a good excuse to have a listen to one of their rarer songs which they performed at the show.
This was the opening song on their debut album. The band has inspired many tribute bands and did you know that there’s even one from Finchampstead? They are called Atomic Rapture – https://www.blondie.net/
Iggy Pop – The Passenger
Local indie bands starting out should have a listen to this song. A great example of how to do it.
Simple but effective guitar riff, driving tight rhythm section and a great vocal with a good hook.
Iggy was headlining at Dog Day Afternoon and he gave a master class in stage presence and performance backed by an extremely good band.

Lambrini Girls – Boys in the Band
This Brighton three-piece were great at Reading’s Are You Listening? festival and they also opened Dog Day Afternoon Festival. What a performance that was.

Heathen Apostles – Gothic Western Haunt
