Evendons Primary School has started major expansion works with the aim of welcoming an additional 60 youngsters every year.
The school, which was founded in 2014, is part of the Bellevue Place Education Trust (BPET) and is the first STEM school (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in the area.
Due to its popularity the school is currently oversubscribed.
The expansion work will widen Reception and Year 1 classrooms. It will eventually see 420 children across all year groups, an 11% rise on current admission numbers.
In a statement, the school noted that the major investment has been possible through the opportunities that being part of a multi-academy trust provides.
Headteacher Stacey Read is delighted that this expansion project has started.
She said: “We are looking forward to the increased capacity and the improvement of the infrastructure. We want the best for the children, and this expansion will help to offer more children the best facilities and education possible.”
Mark Greatrex, BPET Chief Executive, added: “Our focus always rests with the pupils and the breadth of opportunities we can offer them. Investing in the building means that we are investing in their future, by improving the facilities offered as well as the infrastructure they spend so much time in.
“This is the biggest financial investment we have embarked on as a trust; we are immensely proud of Evendons’ fantastic work and reputation, and we’ll do all we can to support their growth.”
The work is expected to be completed before the next academic year which starts in September.
