A RECRUITMENT campaign has been launched to help find more on-call firefighters at a number of fire stations including Wargrave and Crowthorne.
The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) say it wants men and women from all backgrounds to become retained firefighters in Crowthorne, Hungerford, Lambourn, Maidenhead, Mortimer, Pangbourne and Wargrave Fire Stations.
The on-call firefighters provide emergency cover from either their home or their work base, which needs to be within 6-8 minutes of their local fire station.
As part of the role, on-call firefighters receive an annual wage plus additional payments for attending drill nights, training and any incidents.
Depending on the type of cover they are able to provide, an on-call firefighter may respond from home or work, day or night. They may be self-employed, stay at home parents/carers or have other full time or part time careers.
And to help, there will be a series of have a go days taking place at the stations over the coming weeks.
During the sessions, there will be the opportunity to take part in physical and written entry tests that all potential firefighters sit and talk to local firefighters who are already part of the team.
Sessions run from 10am to 2pm and will be held at Wargrave Fire Station on Saturdays February 17 and May 26. Crowthorne Fire Station will be opened on Saturday, April 28 and a second date that has yet to be confirmed.
Applicants must live or work within six to eight minutes of the station, have support from any employers and be over 18.
