Wokingham’s annual May Fayre, organised by Wokingham Lions Club, is set to take place on bank holiday Monday, May 5, 2025.
The government has announced that May 5 will also be the start of a four day celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
Wokingham Lions Club has said it will be encouraging stallholders to get out the bunting, and to wear union jack hats and t-shirts for a fun day in Wokingham town centre.
The May Fayre will take place in the centre of town, including on Elms Field, from 10am until 5pm.
With more than 150 stalls, plus rides, food and drink outlets, a children’s farm, ferret racing and other entertainment events, there will be something for everyone.
All funds raised will be going to support charities and good causes, mostly in the Wokingham area.
This year, Wokingham Lions Club has chosen three main charities to benefit from the May Fayre, sharing around 50% of the money raised among them.
They are:-
Building for the Future:
This local charity supports children and young adults with disabilities and/or additional needs and their families. Having recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of their centre called ‘Our House’, they are now supporting more than 500 families each year. Building for the Future has now outgrown its current premises and are actively looking to relocate. This will take effort, time and money, so raising their profile and funds this year is paramount. Younger People with Dementia, are based in Wokingham, but provide help to those with the condition in Berkshire, as well as parts of Surrey and North-east Hampshire. “Wokingham Lions Club is working very hard to make it a success, and our thanks go to Wokingham town council, who give us such tremendous support, as well as Clifton Ingram, our main sponsor.”
