IF YOU feel the need to lie down in a darkened room during the heatwave, a Winnersh-based cinema has the answer – redheads can enjoy a movie with a high SPF for free. That’s Sun Protecting Flicks in this case.
With temperatures forecast to be close to 40C, the hottest ever recorded in the UK, Showcase Cinema is inviting anyone with ginger or auburn hair to enjoy a movie on the house today and tomorrow.
The cinema says that red heads are often more vulnerable than most to the sun’s rays, and their offer means they can shelter from the sun inside the fully air-conditioned auditoriums.
Films currently being screened include Thor: Love and Thunder, Elvis, and the family favourite Minions: The Rise of Gru.
Also showing are Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World: Dominion, Lightyear, Chilli Laugh Story, Shabassh Mithu, Superworm and Zog, The Black Phone, The Gray Man, and The Railway Children Return.
Tomorrow, there is a screening of Eric Ravilious: Drawn To War, and Where The Crawdads Sing.
To obtain free tickets, all red heads need to go to the box office at the Winnersh cinema. The offer is limited to one free ticket per person and only available on Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19.
Mark Barlow, UK general manager for Showcase Cinemas, said: “We know how hard some people find the heat.
“That’s why to tackle the heatwave, we’re offering red heads free entry to our cinema screens this Monday and Tuesday, so they’ll be able to enjoy some of the amazing films on offer in the comfort of our air-conditioned cinema screens and ensure they stay protected from the sun”.
