
THE FAMILY of a motorcyclist who died in a road accident last week have paid tribute to a “fun-loving gentle giant” who was a father of two.
Douglas John, 56, of Finchampstead Road, Wokingham, died after he was involved in a collision with a Volvo.
It happened at around 4.40pm on Tuesday, October 9, on the A327 in Eversley just past the junction for Cooper’s Hill (B3016).
Mr John was riding his black and red Aprilia Dorsoduro motorbike in the northbound carriageway when he in a collision with a blue Volvo driven by a woman from Fleet who was travelling southbound.
In their tribute, the family said that he had lived in the borough for more than 20 years and had only recently scaled back his working hours so he could be with his family more.
They said: “Douglas John, aged 56, tragically died in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday, 9 October 2018. Doug had lived in Wokingham for the past 24 years and was loved and cherished by his wife, Louisa, and two daughters, Emily and Beth.
“He had enjoyed a successful career in Facilities Management and had recently semi-retired to spend more time with his family, splitting their time between the UK and Spain.
“The recent arrival of Golden Retriever puppy, Milo, had brought him much happiness and a loyal companion.
“We are completely devastated at the loss of such a kind, generous, laid-back, clever and fun-loving gentle giant.
“The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all of their many friends, colleagues and the Hampshire Constabulary Family Liaison team for their support during this difficult time, and to the Emergency Services and those who were involved at the scene.”
Officers are appealing for witnesses to help with their investigation.
