PUPILS from a borough school have been giving lessons in kindness.
The students at Gorse Ride School in Finchampstead are handing out special tokens to anyone who does a good deed or receives one themselves.
They then ask the person to help another person and let the school know what they did or how they were shown kindness.
Over 60 people have already contacted the school to praise the scheme and have promised to pass on the kindness token to someone else.
Amanda Tweed, business manager at Gorse Ride said the project was part of the school’s aim to develop a set of core values.
“Each pupil aged between four and 12 was given four tokens at the start of the term,” she explained.
“The wonderful thing is they haven’t just handed them out to family or friends, but to people and groups in the wider community. We’ve even had one pupil help someone in Spain.
“The response from people who have received a token has been amazing. They are overwhelmed by the kindness shown to them and promise to pass it on in different ways. We are so proud of our children, who are such wonderful ambassadors for our school.”
Among the emails the school has received was one from Wokingham Food Bank who said a pupil asked his mum to donate Advent calendars while another person who received a token planned to drive an elderly neighbour to a relative on Christmas Day so they could be together.
The manager of Bracknell Shopmobility emailed to say: “Hi, today I had a young girl from Gorse Ride School called Hannah come into our charity shop to purchase a hat and matching scarf set for someone less fortunate.
“Hannah’s Nanny told me she was saving her pocket money for a LOL doll but decided to buy the gift instead.
“What a lovely thing your school is doing.”
An anonymous email said simply: “I received a token this morning which warmed my heart and I’ve been smiling all day. I think these tokens are a wonderful way to show children the importance of kindness given and passed on to others.”
