STAFF at a maintenance company in Winnersh will today be trying to determine the cause of an electrical fire which broke out in a service room earlier this morning.
The emergency services were alerted to the incident when the alarm began sounding out at Jacobs in Eskdale Road at around 3am.
Pumps from Caversham Road, Wokingham and Wokingham Road fire stations all answered the call, where they would discover a power supply unit in the premises’ basement ablaze upon arrival.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at present, but could well be traced back to an electrical fault, say firefighters.
Using carbon dioxide extinguishers, those in attendance remained at the scene for around an hour and a half dousing the flames and bringing the situation under control.
The unit was melted as a result, with the incident also leaving scorch marks around the room.
It is understood the business, which provides industrial maintenance, fabrication and construction management, has a secondary power supply it can use in the interim, but computers, heaters, phones and lifts are all said to be out of action.
No-one was in the building at the time the fire broke out.
