FIREFIGHTERS were required to extinguish a small rubbish fire in Wokingham earlier this morning.

The incident was phoned in by a motorist driving along Rances Lane at around 2.30am, with a pump from Wokingham Fire Station responding to the call.

On arrival it was discovered a pile of litter which had swept up outside a house had caught alight.

It is believed to have started accidentally, with a discarded cigarette the most likely cause.

The crew in attendance used a hose reel to douse the flames, although only a small quantity of water was need to put the fire out.
