A former beautician from Reading has launched a new oven cleaning business in Caversham after changing careers to work in the family trade sector.

Charlotte George, 30, has opened Ovenu Caversham, bringing the professional oven valeting service to homes across the RG1 and RG4 postcode areas.

Ms George previously trained as a beautician and worked in a local salon as well as freelancing as a makeup artist. However, she later joined her father’s business, Mark George Conservatories, which specialises in the repair and upgrade of timber conservatories.

After initially helping out, she went on to work full-time in the business for nine years, gaining hands-on experience as well as learning how to run a company.

Ms George said she found herself drawn to the practical side of the work and developed skills in customer service, workload management and delivering quality results. Alongside this, she also ran a roof-cleaning business.

She said her ambition to run her own business led her to the Ovenu franchise model, which she described as offering the reassurance of an established brand and ongoing support.

Ovenu provides a professional oven cleaning service using non-caustic and biodegradable products. The process involves dismantling key oven components, including doors, panels, fans and shelves, and cleaning them in specialist equipment. The company also cleans hobs, extractor hoods, microwaves and range cookers.

Ovenu founder and managing director Rik Hellewell said Ms George had a strong work ethic and a clear focus on customer service.

Ovenu Caversham will serve areas including Caversham, Emmer Green, Sonning, Southcote and surrounding communities, with plans to grow the business and potentially employ additional staff in the future.
