Former Reading FC record signing Sone Aluko has announced his retirement from professional football.
The 35-year-old was part of the Ipswich Town side who gained promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 22 years, but played just once in the Championship and made seven appearances in all competitions.
Aluko joined the Royals in 2017 for what was a club record fee at the time for around £7.5million from Fulham.
Having joined from Fulham for a hefty price tag, Aluko failed to live up to expectations.
He netted three goals in his first campaign with the Royals in the 2017/18 season as the team finished in a disappointing 20th place just a year after losing the Championship play-off final.
Aluko managed just three more goals across the next three seasons at Reading before he departed as a free agent and joined Ipswich in 2021.
Despite his dismal time in Berkshire, Aluko did manage to have a strong career with Hull City where he won promotion to the Premier League in 2012/13 and finished as an FA Cup runner-up the following season.
He finishes his professional career with a total of 61 goals in 492 appearances.
