WOKINGHAM business owners, councillors, and charity representatives gathered in a town centre restaurant to raise money and awareness for Pratham UK.
Held at Bombay Story, Peach Place, the event raised more than £500 for the charity.
Special guests included Wokingham MP Clive Jones, Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr Carol Jewell, and Wokingham Town Mayor Cllr Louise Timlin.
Members from the Athena Network and Woko-Loco also gathered to support the charity.
The evening was hosted by Yuniku London, a womenswear brand founded by Wokingham-based designer Aparna Jain.
“I was delighted to attend Yuniku London’s fundraiser for Pratham UK – an amazing charity focusing on innovative solutions to address the gaps in India’s education system, especially for women and girls,” said Clive Jones.
“The evening brought together a mix of local business owners, councillors and a large number of charity spokespeople in the heart of Wokingham.
“Fundraisers organised by local businesses add huge value to Wokingham, attracting big crowds that come together to raise money for brilliant charities with a global impact like Pratham UK.”
Pratham, which means ‘first’ in Sanskrit, is an education charity driven by its mission: ‘every child in school and learning well’.
Operating in 21 of India’s 29 states it works with governments, parents, and teachers to address gaps in India’s education system, and since 1995 has expanded beyond the borders of the subcontinent.
“Learning changes lives: a message that rings true everywhere and one that drives Pratham UK,” said Cllr Carol Jewell.
“I was delighted to be invited to their recent charity event and find out about the work they do.”
Yuniku London’s philosophy is rooted in sustainability, empowerment, and craftsmanship, hoping to demonstrate that fashion can spark meaningful change.
