A WOKINGHAM garden centre is planning to host a fuchsia show next month.

Members of the Reading and District Fuchsia Society will be heading to Squire’s on Heathlands Road to showcase their green-fingered talents.

Varieties not normally seen will be on show, as specialist fuchsia growers throughout England and Wales exhibit alongside the local gardeners.

The event will run from 1pm to 5pm, on Saturday, July 22, with judging taking place before the show opens.

Colin Squire, chairman emeritus of Squire’s Garden Centres, is looking forward to seeing the riot of colour in the store.

“We are extremely delighted to be able to host the Reading & District Fuchsia Show, supporting this important local society in providing a venue for these wonderful plants to be displayed, enabling visitors to see some of the very best fuchsias there are,” he said.

“Horticulture is at the heart of the Squire’s business and it is good to be able to support the industry and in particular local growers.

“I would like to welcome the Reading & District Fuchsia Society to Squire’s Wokingham and wish them an enjoyable and successful day with us.”

The feeling is shared by Paul Munro, the society’s chair, who said: “We are so pleased that Squire’s Wokingham have kindly agreed to host this important regional Fuchsia Show, enabling both fuchsia enthusiasts, as well as those who might be exploring this fascinating plant for the first time, access to some truly wonderful varieties in a wonderful setting.

“I would encourage people to come down to this free event, enjoy the amazing displays and learn more from the experts in attendance.

“Squire’s is very much part of the local Wokingham community and the R&D Fuchsia Society actively promotes supporting planting in local groups, including getting children growing fuchsias, so this is a brilliant collaboration.”
