A FIRE has broken out in a Wokingham garden, and risks spreading to surrounding areas.
The blaze, which started in Sturges Road at around 1pm, is close to parked cars, and recent warm weather means that nearby bushes are dry, adding to the risk of it spreading.
One witness said: “The emergency services were called straight away, arrived very quickly, and are now dealing with the emergency.
“We were walking round the other side of the garden and could see flames, so we banged loudly on the fence to see if anyone was alert and doing anything about it.”
“When we came round the other side, we could see people gathered there.
“It’s actually worse than the photos appear to show, because the garden is a good metre below the level of the parked cars, and the flames are a lot higher than they appear.”
Photos show flames reaching above the height of the hedge that separates the garden from parked cars.
“Flames were beginning to come through the side of the hedge too, really close to the nearest vehicle,” said the witness.
The area had not been cordoned off when the bystander left the scene, but a fire engine was in attendance, with the crew dealing with the blaze.
“It was definitely raging and spreading, and the nearby cars were in danger, but it should all be OK now that the emergency services are on the scene,” they added.
