A FINCHAMPSTEAD club of green fingered residents is getting ready for its spring exhibition.
California Gardeners Club (CGC), now in its 61st year, enjoys a flourishing membership, and is looking forward to an interesting calendar of events.
The group’s Spring Show is an opportunity for them to welcome visitors to an exhibition of the borough’s first flowers and produce of the year, over a cup of tea and cake.
“We hear about the benefits of gardening from medical and horticultural experts,” said Sylvia Hawes from CGC.
“They say exposure to green spaces and fresh air improves mood and reduces stress and anxiety, promotes social connections, and enhances psychological well-being.
“It seems like a tall order from the simple act of growing flowers and vegetables, but at California Gardening Club we’re living proof that they’re right.”
Visitors to the club can expect a warm welcome and opportunities to exchange tips about tried and tested methods of gardening.
“Speakers always comment on how the hall is buzzing with laughter and chatter before the meetings.”
CGC’s Spring Show will take place at Calfornia Ratepayers Hall, on Sunday, March 22, from 2.30pm until 4pm, when exhibits will be auctioned.
Entry is Free.
The club meets at California Ratepayers Hall on the first Monday of the month, at 7.30pm.
Their next event is on Monday, April 6, when Hampshire based author, broadcaster and expert on the cultivation of fuchsias Carol Gubler, will share tips on how to grow the beautiful blooms.
And the group will hold a plant sale and tool sharpening event at the hall, on Sunday, April 19, from 10am until noon.
All are welcome.
