A WOKINGHAM School is celebrating the results achieved by their Year 11 students who received their GCSE results this morning.
The Emmbrook School has claimed that it is ‘incredibly proud’ of the results that their students managed to achieve in the first set of results to be examined at pre-pandemic standards and praised them for ‘great resilience in the face of challenges and disruption’.
Students performed strongly in English, Maths and Science, with the three core subjects leading the way in exam results, in particular with “standard” (4+) and “strong” (5+) passes.
High performing subjects at grades 7-9 included Art & Design, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, Computer Science, French, Geography, Maths, Media and Creative Media Production.
The Emmbrook School headteacher Nick McSweeney said: “This cohort have undoubtedly faced disruption as a result of the global pandemic and having a daughter in Year 11 myself I have seen how this has created added anxiety, particularly with the return to pre-pandemic exam boundaries.
“We are, therefore, so incredibly proud of the resilience and determination shown by our students, who have worked hard to secure these results.
“I am pleased that even more student this year will be staying with us in Sixth Form and I wish all of our students success in the next stage of their education.”
Assistant headteacher Pete Whitehouse added: “We are so very proud of this cohort of individuals. The way they approached their studies and prepared for their public exams demonstrated what a resilient and aspirational group they are.
“They managed to block out all the external noise around the uncertainty of exam grade changes and overcome the challenges of the disruptions of Covid during their time in the lower school.
“The outcome is a superb set of results which will allow them access to move on to the next stage of their journeys, for most this will be The Emmbrook Sixth Form, for others college or an apprenticeship.
“We look forward to working with the majority and wish all the others all the best for the next phase of their lives.”
