WELLINGTON College students were rewarded for their hard work with a “superb” set of GCSE results.
Year 11 candidates outperformed their school’s pre-pandemic performances in 2019, with more than 36% of all grades awarded being a 9, the highest grade possible.
Almost two thirds of entries were grade 9-8, 86% being 9-7. Wellington’s Year 10’s secured a clean sweep of 9s.
Wellington Master, James Dahl, said: “The achievements of this year group are nothing short of remarkable. Having lost the final term at their previous schools due to the pandemic, they arrived at Wellington into a world of social distancing, mask-wearing and numerous other restrictions before a second bout of online learning in early 2021.
“In the face of these immense challenges, they have thrown themselves whole-heartedly into every aspect of life at the College, both inside and outside the classroom, achieving national accolades at sport, producing breath-taking performances on the stage, and proving themselves to be a delight around the school.
“These superb results, which are stronger than our 2019 GCSE outcomes at all levels, are just reward for years of hard work, resilience and determination. We are hugely proud of this group of Wellingtonians and cannot wait to see what they will achieve in the Sixth Form.”
