Labour’s Yuan Yang has been elected as the MP for the new Earley & Woodley seat.
Yang won 18,209 votes which sees her become the first MP of Earley & Woodley after the seat was part of last year’s restructure.
The turnout for Earley & Woodley was 61.86%.
She said: “I’m very aware of the scale of the challenge ahead of me to represent the diverse community of our new constituency, to fight for you on the naitonal stage and to work with my Labour colleagues in parlimaent to rebuild the economy after 14 years of decline.
“I’m incredibly honoured that you’ve given me your trust and approval to take on this task.
“In some parts of the constituency, I am your first ever Labour MP.
“For those who have always voted Labour, for those who have voted Labour for the first time, for those who voted differently and for those who didn’t vote, I vow to work hard for every single one of you because trust is someone I believe has to be earned through continuous hard work.
“This is a difficult time for our country. I’ve heard the despair that has crept into our democracy, we’re up of governments that fail to deliver, we’re fed up of scandals and sleaze.
“I fundamentally believe our democracy is worth fighting for and polticians should serve our public.
“I look forward to opening our first constituency office and speaking to many of you over the years.
“We know how hard it will be to make that change but also know it can be done
“Keir Starmer has changed the Labour party and together we will change the country.”
