Reading boss Jose Gomes is confident his side can bounce back against Blackburn on Saturday despite back to back league defeats.
Royals are looking to kickstart their season after losing momentum in recent weeks, but Gomes is remaining upbeat about the season’s prospects and believes the wins are not far away.
“Even after the last result I feel the team is stronger than before the game,” said Gomes.
“If you look at the data from Middlesbrough we were better in every department. We had more possession, made more passes and created more chances.
“Offensively we are better because everything changed, not only the players but the formation. They showed they can adapt very quickly and I’m sure we can have a great season.
Gomes was also keen to praise his players for their attitude and insisted the team spirit is an encouraging sign as Reading look to turn fortunes around.
“There is a fantastic relationship between all the players. It’s something special. I am very happy with my players and the way they connect is really strong. This is a very important thing for me and I want to share it because it gives hope to everybody that loves the club.”
“We need to patient in the process and the way that we are working, put trust in our players and believe that everything can work as we plan.
“In the Championship, it’s a very long season. Of course, it’s important to get the points as soon as possible but all sorts of things can happen.”
The Reading manager hopes Yakou Meite will recover in time for the game at the Madejski after the Ivorian’s clash last time out where he received a nasty elbow from Boro’s Adam Clayton.
“Yakou is following the protocols for concussion and went to the hospital overnight after the game. I hope he will finish the week training with the group.
Defender Matt Miazga is another player side-lined with injury. “Miazga has started training with the group. The medical department have ruled him out for the weekend because he needs a few more days but he is doing really well.”
