A charity team has made a splash to fundraise for Cranstoun, helping fund gym and swimming memberships to support residents in recovery.
The team joined the recent Wokingham Lions’ Swimathon at Wokingham leisure centre.. They completed a relay, undertaking 60 laps in 50 minutes, raising just over £1,000 for the cause.
This will be matched by Places Leisure, bringing the total to more than £2,000.
Cranstoun helps people in the borough facing alcohol and drugs recovery, domestic abuse, housing issues and those in contact with the criminal justice system.
The money will be used to fund around two dozen 12-week gym memberships for the charity’s drug and alcohol clients.
A client helped by the initiative last year, said: “The gym and swimming membership helped me so much. It changed my quality of life, and I was swimming every day and going to classes and realised I can get a natural high from exercise instead of the horrid drugs which were destroying me.”
Cranstoun hopes to offer the memberships to its clients next month.
