WHEN it came to raising money for charity, 10-year-old Rose Mott took a short cut.
The youngster from Finchampstead lopped off 12 inches of her long hair for the Little Princess Trust.
The charity provide wigs made from real hair for children and young people who have lost theirs due to illness and cancer treatment.
As well as donating her long hair, Rose also raised £700 in sponsorship which will help the Trust provide more wigs.
Rose said she heard about the charity from a friend at her school, St Dominic Savio Primary in Woodley.
“I read about a little girl who became ill and didn’t have any hair so I decided I would share mine,” she explained.
“My hair used to go all the way down my back but now it is just under my chin. It feels very different but I like it and I am happy another little girl can use my hair.”
Rose who had her hair cut last week, said her school friends had yet to see her new look.
“They might get a surprise but I think they will still recognise me.”
Mum and Dad, Jon and Charlotte said they had mixed emotions about their daughter’s charity idea but were “very proud” of what she had done.
“It all came from Rose, we didn’t prompt her at all,” said Charlotte.
“I wasn’t that keen at first because I loved her long hair but Rose was determined to do it. I am so proud of her wanting to help other children and raising so much money.”
Dad Jon added: “Rose loves athletics and I was worried she might lose her power but I think she’ll be fine,” he joked.
“When she told us about what she wanted to do I wasn’t sure then she explained about the Trust and how they helped children.
“Our local hairdresser came to the house and took off 12 inches.
“I think Rose suits her new style.”
