HANNAH KIRK is ahead of other people when it comes to fundraising.
The 34-year-old photographer wanted to raise money for the Yeldall Manor drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre.
So she will have her head completely shaved at the centre’s open day next month.
It will be the first time Hannah, who has always had long hair, will have had it cut in over two years.
“I’m just glad the open day is taking place in July and not the middle of winter,” she smiled.
“Mostly, I have had long hair and I don’t like it too short. However, I have been a supporter of Yeldall for five years and it is such a great place which has helped so many men.
“Recovery is a tough choice and hard to do but the men at Yeldall need the money raised, more than I need hair.”
Based in Hare Hatch, Yeldall Manor is a Christian centre founded in 1977 which has helped hundreds of men find freedom from addiction.
It offers a holistic detox that not only helps residents overcome their physical dependency, but also to recover mentally and emotionally.
Once residents have completed the four phases of the Yeldall Programme, they are helped in finding safe accommodation to facilitate their on-going recovery, living independently in the community.
Hannah has already carried out a number of other fundraising events for the charity and hopes to raise over £1,000 from her hair shave.
“It’s not just about money but also raising awareness of Yeldall and the amazing work it does,” she added.
“I’m a bit nervous about having all my hair completely shaved off but I know it will be worth it if it helps Yeldall.”
The open day takes place on Saturday, July 6 and promises to be a day of fun, fellowship and food for all the family.
It includes a hog roast and a strawberry tea as well as games, live music and a plant sale. Running from noon to 5.30pm, the event includes a celebration service at 3pm, where staff and residents look back on the past 12 months. Entry is free.
