MELANIE is the name of a great song from Hayley Griffiths.

We discovered the track when we headed to Southampton to catch a Prog Rock night with Edward Naysmith.

We think it’s amazing and you have to hear it … and the other entries in our RaW Sounds Today playlist.

Simply head to https://bit.ly/rawsoundstodayand enjoy the music.

There is also a Facebook page and group chat that bands and music fans can tap into. You can search for RaW Sounds Today and it will come up.

Hayley Griffiths – Melanie

As well as having great music venues in the area, there are many good ones further afield but within easy reach. One of our faves is The 1865 in Southampton and we popped along to one of the wonderful Solent Area Prog nights there as our good friend, Edward Naysmith was playing a support slot.

He was excellent as always (watch out for new music from him next year) and we were blown away by the headlining artist, The Hayley Griffiths Band.

Hayley, a former member of proggers Karnataka, first became known for performing in Riverdance and this year she released two solo albums, one Celtic folk, the other prog rock.

This song is the title track from the rock album.

Hayley played a set from each at the gig and we loved both with Hayley’s powerful voice and stage presence combining perfectly with her brilliant band of musicians. They are close by again at Guildford’s Electric Theatre on March 2 – https://www.hayleygriffiths.com/

Our Hollow, Our Home – Downpour

How about some metalcore? Here’s a band from the south coast who have built quite a following and they will be headlining on November 18 at the Reading Rising event at Reading’s Face Bar.

If you are into the alt-rock/metal side of things the gig is well worth getting along to, as there will be 12 bands playing over two stages and there are no clashes so you can see all of them.

Downpour is the latest single from Our Hollow, Our Home and it shows why this style of music is so popular with its power and melody combining to create an exciting rock anthem – https://www.facebook.com/ourhollowourhome

Pinewall – You Didn’t Go Up There To Fish

More rock now with a new band from Reading who describe themselves as ‘post-hardcore’. If this latest single is anything to go by, with its display of strong vocals and great band performance they certainly have potential.

See them live in Bracknell at The Couch in Bracknell on Friday, December 15 – https://linktr.ee/pinewall

The Veras – Something to Say

It’s that band who bring the pysch pop sounds of the 60’s right up to date as you can hear on this new single – https://theveras.co.uk/

Trampolene – Thinking Again

This Saturday, November 4, it is 19 Something Festival in aid of Age UK Reading and Trampolene from Wales will be there – https://www.trampolene.co.uk/

Eddie & The Hot Rods – Guardians of the Legacy

Here’s the title track from the band’s new album and they are at Reading Face Bar on November 11 – https://www.eddieandthehotrods.com/

Kyros – Esoterica

Danny Lampo – Number One

This song features on the Reading musician’s African Queen EP that was released earlier this year – https://www.dannylampo.com/
