PEOPLE keen to find out about the history of Wokingham were able to enjoy a free heritage event at the weekend, organised by Wokingham Town Council.
Wokingham Heritage Open Day was an opportunity to celebrate the town’s industries and histories, with the theme of this year’s national event being Routes, Networks, Connections.
Events took place at Wokingham Town Hall, Howard Palmer Gardens, Wokingham Baptist Church, All Saints Church, and Wokingham Library, where visitors to the venues were able to enjoy exhibitions, activities, and guided walks.
At the same time a wellbeing fesitval, Mindset Unlimited, was held in Elms Field, offering talks and wellbeing sessions.

“Town mayor Robert Comber, said: “What a fabulous Day.
“The town was incredibly busy with both Heritage Open Day and the Mindset Unlimited Festival.
“It was a delight to be out and about with our new mini-mayor Celia and Wokingham High Steward Lucy Zeal.
“I don’t think we stopped smiling all day.”
Heritage Open Day is a chance to put the town’s heritage front and centre with interactive activities and displays where residents can learn about how Wokingham came to be, its industries, and changes that have occurred over time.

A 1939 fire engine in Market Place was a huge draw on Saturday.
Similar engines would have been operating out of the then Fire Station which was situated under the arches in the Town Hall up until 1969, before relocating to Denton Road.
The mayor continued: “I would like to personally thank our Heritage Day partners Wokingham Baptist Church, All Saint’s Church, Wokingham Library, and The Outhouse and Elusive Breweries who brewed a special larger to celebrate the Heritage theme of Connections.
“A special thank you, too, to all our volunteers and partners who continue to provide and impart local historical knowledge to all of us here and the general public.”
