THE NATIONAL Health Service has released advice ahead of an expected heatwave later this week.
From Thursday, July 10, temperatures will reach 30° Celsius through the rest of the week, including highs of 32° Celsius on Friday.
Some people, such as older adults, young children, and those with long-term health conditions, can be more affected by heat.
As such, the NHS recommends that during a heatwave is a good time to check in with family, friends and neighbours to make sure everyone stays safe and comfortable.
It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids and avoid too much caffeine or alcohol.
Staying out of the heat during the hottest part of the day – between 11am and 3pm – is advised, as well as seeking shade and wearing loose, light-coloured clothing.
Use sunscreen with a high SPF and wear sunglasses if you are outdoors–UV rays can be harmful even on cloudy days.
Use fans at home to circulate air, and if you find it difficult to keep your house cool, consider spending time in cooler public places like libraries, supermarkets or community centres.
