Beaver Scouts kept silent for an impressive 25 minutes – to help other children in Wokingham borough who do not have their own beds or bedding.
The sponsored silence by Hurst Beavers, just six to eight, raised more than £360 for First Days children’s charity based in Molly Millars Lane, Wokingham.
Barbara Loring, who is the Beavers’ leader, and is known as Squirrel, explained: “Lindsay Browne from First Days visited us earlier to talk with the children about their bedtimes, their beds and their duvet cover designs.
“She told them that some children in this area don’t have their own beds or bedding.”

Last week, the Beavers kept themselves busy, and silent, colouring in pictures and patterns for 25 minutes at their meeting.
Mrs Loring said: “The Beavers were fantastic, keeping quiet for all that time. We had gentle music playing as they did their ‘mindful’ colouring.
“Even when the time’s up buzzer went off they just carried on, they couldn’t believe the time was over. They were so engrossed.”
Wokingham Today recently reported First Days’ urgent request for single beds, new single mattresses, new duvets and bedding, cotbeds, and toddler beds.
The charity’s CEO Emma Cantrell said: “There are children sleeping on the floor, and others taking it in turns to sleep in the one bed in the house.” And she added: “We have seen this sort of situation before, but it was rare.”
