Hurst Show and Country Fayre, offering exciting new attractions, has a big heart for its visitors and the good causes it helps.
The show on June 28 and 29 promises all its favourite attractions plus exciting new ones for the whole family.
With over 40 years of tradition, the volunteer organisers say the much-loved event will offer unbeatable value for money.
It will also create important funds for local charitable organisations.
Last year’s show raised more than £25,000. Many good causes including St Nicholas Primary at Hurst received donations.
Now the show has just announced further grants from the 2024 event.
Among them is support for Chattertots, helping Down Syndrome children with speech and language. Children from Hurst, Twyford and Woodley are among them.
Chattertots’ manager Clare McIntosh said: “The grant will help us run a summer camp on August 11 where 15-20 children can do drama. They’ll work with an organisation specialising in drama for children with learning disabilities.”
Clare from Shurlock Row and who has a child, Josh, 11, with the syndrome, added: “Most of the children at the camp go to a main stream school and will be the only child there with the syndrome.
“It’s important they have friendships with children with similar interests and communication style.”
Other grant receivers included Wokingham borough’s Link Visiting Scheme and also Keep Mobile which provides transport for elderly and/or disabled people.
The show’s new children’s attractions include climbing sessions with Dinton Pastures Activity Centre, BMX stunt displays, drop-in painting activities, bouncy castles and soft play.
Established favourites include hobbyhorse jumping, a fun dog show, animal petting, craft stalls, a classic vehicle show, live music, a bar and BBQ.
New in the arena will be children’s entertainment, magic shows, cheerleading, Irish dancing and Young Farmers’ tug-of-war. Hurst Morris People will perform.
Tickets are available online – adults £5 for one day/£7.50 for weekend entry. Under 16s and carers accompanying the person they care for are free. Free parking is included.
