Organisers of this weekend’s Hurst Horticultural Show are promising a great family afternoon of entertainment.
The event is a traditional English summer show of fruit, vegetable, craft, photography, flower arranging and cookery classes – with lots of extras including a scarecrow contest.
The popular EMC Jazz Band is returning along with stalls selling plants and crafts, a raffle and a produce auction. Refreshments including cream teas are available.
Among the competitive classes is a new one for IT-savvy young people aged 12-15. They’re being asked to design a simple website.
Another highly contested battle for the men only apple flan competition is predicted. The winner is ceremonially crowned at the show’s prize giving.
Entries for the cookery classes which have gone wrong, refused to rise or been burnt, have a new home, on the Ooops Table. The table is just for fun and the “entries” won’t be judged.
The show at Hurst Village Hall in School Road, Hurst RG10 0DR is open from 1pm, entry is free for under 18s and £2 for adults, parking is free in the field next door. Details are at http://hursthorticulturalshow.org
