A VILLAGE society has announced its intention to fold, and will hold an extraordinary meeting next month to allow members to vote on the plan.
The members-only meeting will be held at St Nicholas Primary School in Hurst on Tuesday, June 11.
In advance of the gathering, Hurst Village Society has sent voting forms out with two options.
The first is to approach the dissolution of the society “as soon as practically possible”. The second is to approve sharing the remaining funds equally between St Nicholas Church, Hurst Consolidated Society, St Nicholas primary school, and the Hurst Village Village Halls.
The decision follows a committee meeting held on Friday, April 12, where committee members made a unanimous decision to start the process of closing the group.
A note on its website reads: “Despite many appeals over the years, not enough volunteers have come forward to serve as members of the Committee.
“Unfortunately several of our stalwarts have now resigned or will soon be moving away from Hurst, and in the absence of replacements to ensure the HVS can function properly, the Committee have reluctantly decided the correct procedure is to dissolve the Society.”
It continued: “(We are) sad to be doing this, we hope that other local organisations will carry on the good work.”
