AN ELEVEN-year-old Wokingham girl has decided to donate her locks to The Princess Trust.
Sophie Grove, from Embrook had spent the summer months talking about getting her haircut and donating it to charity for wig making with her Mum, Zoe Grove.
Now she is preparing to turn the dream into a reality.
When she donates her hair to the charity, it will be turned into a real hair wig which will then be given free of charge to children and young people up to the age of 24, who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other treatments. The charity has provided more 7,000 wigs and given grants of £2,800,000 to childhood cancer research. Among its donors is the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.
Ms Grove is proud of her inspirational daughter.
She said: “Sophie researched the whole thing herself, and came to me with the idea.
“I left it to make sure she was certain… and she definitely is!”
And for the committed youngster, this haircut has been a long time coming.
“I love my hair, but I’d like someone else to have it,” Sophie said. “I’ve grown my hair down to my belly button now, and I’m cutting it in October.”
Sophie’s last hair cut was a year ago, and she has been growing it since then.
Ms Grove went on to say: “We have set up a Just Giving page to raise money to help make the wigs, as apparently it costs £500, so this is her target.

Sophie plans to cut her hair on Saturday, October 26, and wants to raise as much money as possible. The fundraising event will see Sophie have her locks cut, and perform with some singing.
“I’m totally proud and inspired by my Soph, she has been very focused on wanting to help in any way she knows she can.”
Sophie started at The Embrook School this September and is excited for her classmates to see her new haircut.
