‘I’m not planning to walk away’: Ruben Selles commits to Reading FC despite latest points deduction

READING FC manager Ruben Selles has reiterated his commitment to staying with the club despite the off field problems after they were deducted more points by the EFL.

The Royals have lost a total of four points this season, 16 in total since Dai Yongge took control of the club.

The latest deduction moves the team down into the relegation zone in League One.

However, Selles is fully committed to the cause.

He said: “I’m not planning to walk away at any point. My mind is here. My brain, my soul, everything is here and I’m wishing to get the very best of the team and the best results for the club.

“I’m trying to keep my foucs on the pitch. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a bad day because a lot has been going on.

“It is more likely they will fire me than I will walk away. Unfortunately I have been in some similar positions in my career a long time ago in different countries. I know at the end of it there is always something positive and sometimes we have to suffer.

“We had a meeting this morning and put everything on the table. We know where we are, all together.

“There has been some key moments for us that unfortunately we solve it or not in the last seconds but we did not solve it.

“We were asking and trying to be informed if we were making it or not and we didn’t.

“What I see right now is we face the problem every single month so what I expect at some point is to change it, but I have no answer for that.”

Selles was questioned about the EFL’s punishment of taking points away from teams rather than directly punishing the ownership.

He continued: “I think what the EFL is trying to do is to find the regulation for anyone to buy a club that has to go through some rules.

“They are taking away the job we do, taking the points, taking the points from the fans but I don’t know how they can do it in a different way.

“It’s a panel for the experts to see if they can do it in a different way and don’t go against what we get on the pitch.”
