Last summer, more than 600 cyclists – a recent record – enjoyed their ride through the local countryside on the Three Counties Cycle Ride organised by the Rotary Club of Bracknell, raising £17,000 for charity.
This year’s Cycle Ride takes place on Sunday 2 June, starting and finishing at Garth Hill College.
Organiser Dave Donaldson explains: “The 3 Counties Cycle Ride is an event for cycling families and the seasoned enthusiast alike, with a choice of three routes weaving through picturesque country lanes.”
You can choose from the scenic 15-mile, 33-mile or 54-mile routes which wind through Berkshire, sometimes dipping into Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The routes are clearly signed with frequent marshals and drink stations. And at the finish, a medal, a certificate and if you maybe a massage!
Full details can be downloaded from the website www.3CCR.org and all entrants are encouraged to enrol on line. Booking now offers you an early entry reduction, but entry on the day is also possible.
If you are 16 or older, advance entry is £18 compared to entry on the day of £25. For cyclists under 16, entry is just £9. Last electronic entries should be submitted no later than Friday 31 May.
The entry fee covers the cost of certificates, medals, T-shirts, and printing. Any surplus goes to charities.
Supporters of the event include Tesco (Mars bars), Fraser’s Retail (bottled water), Print Room Group, Cycling UK Reading, Berkshire Cycle Co (support vehicle), Emerald Massage, Garth Hill College, The Old Manor Bracknell, The Stag and Hounds Binfield, The Lookout, and local Guides and Scouts.
“Since the cycle ride was founded in 1983,” says organiser Dave Donaldson from the Rotary Club of Bracknell, “well over £600,000 has been raised for our charities. Last year more than £12,000.
“This year’s principal beneficiaries will be Thames Valley Air Ambulance, Breakthrough Learning, Night Shelter Bracknell, and the Rotary Club of Bracknell Trust Fund .”
Previous beneficiaries include Macmillan Cancer Support, the British Heart Foundation and Alzheimer’s Society.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Bracknell, the Three Counties Cycle Ride is strongly supported by dozens of local Rotarians, notably the members of Easthampstead Rotary Club.
