A woman has been sentenced after admitting to shooting two cats in Winnersh, Berkshire, in what Thames Valley Police described as “unacceptable” animal cruelty.
Bozena Medland, 56, pleaded guilty at Slough Magistrates’ Court to two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and one count of firing an air weapon beyond the boundary of premises. The offences took place between 22 May and 1 June last year in Woodward Close, Winnersh.
A Thames Valley Police spokesperson told Wokigham Today:“Thames Valley Police takes all reports of animal cruelty seriously, and will work with partner agencies, including the RSPCA, to ensure those who cause harm are held to account. It is unacceptable to cause such unnecessary suffering to an animal, and where reported, we will seek to investigate and bring those to justice who seek to do so.”
The court imposed a 12-month custodial sentence, suspended for 18 months, along with a 12-month rehabilitation order, a deprivation order preventing her from owning air rifles, and an order to pay £14,000 in veterinary costs.
