Striker Sam Smith has issued a farewell message to Reading Football Club after he completed his move to Wrexham AFC.

It is understood that Reading have received a fee of around £2million for the 26-year-old, but will be unable to replace him due to their financial issues under owner Dai Yongge.

Taking to X, Smith said: “I didn’t think I’d be writing this but it’s time to say goodbye for the second time, Royals.

“I can wholeheartedly say I gave everything and it was a honour to be able to return and live out my teenage ambition of scoring goals and leading the line for this football club.

“It’s been a tough decision but a project I couldn’t turn down and an opportunity to move back home closer to my family.

“We had some amazing memories in difficult circumstances and I hope everything off the field can be resolved in the hear future as it’s what everyone associated with the club deserves.
