FOR AN evening of anarchic musical fun, people should get to Bracknell.
Based on the award winning and popular television drama, Bad Girls The Musical, is a powerful, uplifting, and raucous entertaining British musical, say The Sainsbury Singers.
The borough performance group (the longest-running local musical theatre society) will be performing the musical, packed with all the TV show favourite characters.
Set in the fictional HMP Larkhall, Bad Girls introduces the audience to an anarchic bunch of women, living on the edge, and up against the odds.
Each has a story to tell of lives left behind, and dreams of a better future ahead.
New Wing Governor Helen Stewart tries to introduce new ways of running the prison.
Old guard Jim Fenner continues as he sees fit – with tragic consequences – leading to the Bad Girls of Larkhill finally taking matters into their own hands.
The resulting show is a mix of gritty reality, rebellious spirit, emotional honesty and irreverent humour, that touches hearts and kicks up a riot.
And it’s crammed full of big songs and big characters, love, tragedy, comedy and revenge.
Director, Jess Wilkins, said: “Bad Girls is a musical like no other.
“I saw it back in 2018 and it’s a show that sticks with you, with tunes that you will be singing on the way home and themes that really makes you think.
“It’s hard-hitting and will make the audience feel every single emotion.”
The score brings the stories to life with sassy songs, heartfelt ballads, and everything in-between, to the accompaniment of a live orchestra.
Musical Director, Amy Bingham, said: “It’s a great show.
“I like the music a lot as it’s written for the show, rather than being a jukebox score where the songs don’t always feel like part of the story.
“I like the fact it’s about powerful women and it tackles some tricky issues head on with humour and honesty.”
