A STATUE donated to the village of Sonning by departing resident Uri Geller has mysteriously vanished – less than 10 days after being unveiled.
The giant red statue – which depicts a bent spoon – was subject to ridicule and vandalism after it’s unveiling on October 6, but now it appears to have disappeared altogether.
Mr Geller, 68, made his name in the 1970s for apparently being able to bend spoons with his mind, commissioned the statue by artist-blacksmith Paul Wells as a parting gift to the village where he has lived for 35 years.
He is now heading back to his native Israel.
But the statue that he’d hoped would remain as his legacy in Sonning – placed on a tree stump opposite George Clooney’s new house – has been the subject of ridicule amongst locals.
Eagle-eyed resident Nick Procter has been documenting the progress of the statue throughout the week.
On Monday (12) the statue was seen to be sporting some rather unsavoury graffiti…
…But by Wednesday morning the entire statue had been bent over…
…And by the afternoon it had disappeared altogether…
Clearly mourning the loss of the statue, a prankster had left this touching tribute this morning (Friday)
Will there be another instalment in the statue saga? Or have we indeed seen the last of the big red spoon? Leave your thoughts in the comments below or email [email protected].
