Wokingham’s member of parliament Clive Jones took to the stage at the Liberal Democrats spring conference in Harrogate last weekend.
In a section of the event that was introducing six MP’s, including one whose mother was a secretary to Winston Churchill whilst he was PM in 1950s, Jones appeared in a Thunderbirds costume, recalling his days in the toy industry where the company he managed sold dressing-up costumes for adults and children.
Before his career in politics, Clive was the managing director of a global toy manufacturing and distribution company, whose products included the Teletubbies, Thunderbirds and many other favourites.
He was welcomed onto the stage to the iconic Thunderbirds theme tune.
Commenting on the conference, he said: “The Liberal Democrat conference dealt with many important issues.
“These included opposing the rise of populist right-wing across the world and in the UK which threatens liberal democracy, the crisis in the UK justice system, the need for proper funding for public services, especially special educational needs, and many other issues where the Liberal Democrats are leading the way.
“In difficult times for our country, dealing with more than a decade of mismanagement by the Conservatives, I was pleased to be able to bring some fun to the start of our conference.”
