WOKINGHAM and Emmbrook pushed Kidlington hard on Tuesday night – only to suffer a narrow 1-0 defeat at the Hellenic Premier Division champions.
Not only were the Sumas resolute, but had their chances too during this top-versus-bottom clash at Yarnton Road, with Luke Scope seeing a strike deflected on to the crossbar having powered his way into the box.
Title favourites Kidlington won the reverse fixture 4-1 back in February and were 3-0 up inside the first 10 minutes, but there was to be no repeat on this occasion as the relegated opposition did the club proud.
They would, however, eventually secure three more vital points on 77 minutes when a blocked Tommy Coyle effort fell kindly for Jimmy Deabill to nudge home from three yards.
A late chance to equalise would fall the way of Wokingham, but Elliott Rushforth saw his shot saved by Sam Warrell in the Oxfordshire side’s goal.
Wokingham and Emmbrook are back in action on Thursday night, where they take on local rivals Bracknell Town in a Bluefin Sports Supplemtary Cup quarter-final clash.
Kick-off at Larges Lane is 7.45pm.
Finchampstead’s winless run shows no sign of letting up after they were beaten 4-0 by high-flying Penn and Tylers Green on the same night.
Danny Jordan led the scoring with a brace, while George Weller and Lee Thompson were also on target as Penn moved back to the top of the Division 1 East table.
