Woodley and Earley Lions have unveiled a potentially life-saving piece of equipment in Woodley shopping precinct.
The charity hopes that bleed control kits will become common in public places in the same way as defibrillators are a common sight today..
Glenda Kennedy, president of Woodley & Earley Lions, said: “I’ve always been a very keen first aider, and I believe that anything that can be done to save lives should be done.
“Lions’ clubs all around the world serve their communities, particularly in relation to health and the environment.
“Having already provided the defibrillator, this blood control kit is a complimentary piece of life saving equipment.
“It is for any injury that causes major bleeding, so it can be a traffic accident, a work accident, not just a stabbing.
“Hopefully it will never be needed, but it may just save a person’s life.”
Councillor Juliet Anderson, deputy mayor of Woodley, said: “On behalf of our entire community, I extend heartfelt thanks for the invaluable contribution of this blood trauma kit.
She urged people not to worry about using the kit because they are used in conjunction with an ambulance service.
In the event of an emergency, anyone calling 999 will be given a code to unlock the box and guidance on how to use the kit.
