A local MP has been asked by the Prime Minister to speak during tomorrow’s debate after the Queen’s Speech.
The traditional debate follows the State Opening of Parliament, in which the Queen reads out a list of bills the ruling party intends to bring before the House of Commons over the next parliamentary session.
It is expected that the bills will include ones looking at the role of the House of Lords, a change to the Human Rights Act and also a bill about extremist preachers.
Dr Phillip Lee MP said earlier tonight that he has been asked by the Prime Minister to ‘Second the Loyal Address’. This means that he will be delivering a speech to the House of Commons after the Queen’s State Opening which is due to take place from 11.30am.
Dr Lee, whose constituency includes parts of Wokingham borough, said: “This is a tremendous privilege, not just for me but for the whole of Bracknell, as I will be the first ever MP for the constituency to have been afforded this honour. Not only this but to have been asked in the year of Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th Birthday makes it extra special.”
