London Irish have appointed businessman Frank McCartney as the club’s new chairman with immediate effect.
McCartney replaces David Fitzgerald, who has stood down for personal reasons.
An experienced businessman and long-time supporter of London Irish, McCartney, now retired from full-time business, used to work as the managing director and chairman of the sports division within the Compass Group and prior to that at FMC, a sports hospitality and catering company.
“It is a great honour for me to be appointed chairman of the club I’ve supported for four decades,” said McCartney.
“These are exciting times for rugby and London Irish is well placed to capitalise on opportunities such as our ground-breaking Aviva Premiership match in New York in March.”
Announcing the appointment of McCartney, Mick Crossan, President of London Irish, said: “I’m delighted that Frank McCartney has accepted our invitation to become Chairman of London Irish.
“Frank shares our passion for the Club and brings a wealth of experience in the hospitality, food and beverage industries that will be invaluable to the Board at this exciting period in the Club’s development.”
