A MAJOR route in Wokingham has been closed to allow emergency works to take place on a bridge.
Wokingham Borough Council has said that it is hoped works will be completed by 6pm this evening, but until then the road is closed to traffic.
Pedestrian access is being maintained while a team from Network Rail is on site at the railway bridge on the A321 Finchampstead Road.
Just after the Tesco store, or before the turning to Molly Millars Lane, the road links the town to Finchampstead.
Masonry was seen falling from the structure, leading to the emergency closure.
Scaffolding has been installed and the brickwork is being repaired.
In a tweet, Wokingham Borough Council said: “Network Rail’s teams have been on site since about 6.30am, urgently repairing parapet masonry. Signs were definitely in place but we’ll ask them to check they haven’t fallen.”
Hi Ian. Network Rail's teams have been on site since about 6.30am, urgently repairing parapet masonry. Signs were definitely in place but we'll ask them to check they haven't fallen. We're also about to put out a wider statement to alert people. Best wishes, James.
