A man has died after being struck by a heavy goods vehicle on the A33 Swallowfield bypass in Berkshire.
Thames Valley Police said officers were called at about 00:50 GMT on Thursday to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian on the southbound carriageway, close to the junction with Barge Lane.
The pedestrian, a 33-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency treatment.
Police said they had initially been responding to a report of a separate collision involving a black Mercedes estate car, believed to have been driven by the man. It is thought he left the vehicle before being involved in the subsequent collision with the lorry.
The HGV driver stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made.
The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
Sergeant Mark Dunne, from the Roads Policing Unit, said officers were appealing for witnesses and for anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time to contact police.
Anyone with information is asked to report it online or by calling 101, quoting incident reference 0052 of 18 December.
