WOKINGHAM’S branch of Marks and Spencer (M&S) is due to close next month, it has been announced today.
The Peach Street store, which was earmarked for closure in April, will be closing its doors for the final time on Wednesday, July 26.
The closure coincides with the opening of a new branch in Bracknell the following day.
All 55 colleagues at M&S Wokingham have been guaranteed positions at other nearby stores, with the majority set to transfer across to M&S Bracknell.
Tom Henderson, Store Manager of M&S Bracknell, said: “Our new store will provide a fantastic shopping experience to new and loyal M&S customers. We’re working really hard to bring on board the very best customer service team that will be on hand in all our departments and have carefully selected the brands and products that we know Bracknell customers will expect and love.
“We’ve got lots of entertainment, sampling and giveaways on Thursday 27th July and I can’t wait to welcome everyone to The Lexicon’s first store and hear their reactions.”
Gordon Scott, Regional Manager for Home Counties South at M&S said: “Our new offer at M&S Bracknell will provide the best that M&S has to offer for shoppers in the region.
“We haven’t taken the decision to close our Wokingham store lightly, but doing so will enable us to ensure we are in the right places to best serve our customers.
“I’d like to thank the team at M&S Wokingham for their hard work and am sure that we will see the same dedication to serving customers as they transfer over to M&S Bracknell.”
